Invisible Fitness Move: Pilates for Your Feet

Next time you kick off your shoes, try this exercise to strengthen your feet and take pressure off your knees, hips, and back, suggests Jillian Hessel, a master Pilates Instructor in Los Angeles and the author of Pilates Basics. Stand barefoot on a smooth surface with your feet shoulder-width apart. Starting with your right foot, press your toes into the floor and scrunch them so your heel moves forward and your foot arches (like an inchworm). You should never lose sight of your toenails. Then ground your heel and flatten your toes so your foot returns to the starting position. Repeat with your left foot. Do this move once daily for 30 seconds — particularly if you're not a sensible-shoes kinda gal.
